Goldstone

Goldstone is a manufactured material composed of copper flecks suspended in glass to create an effect called "aventurescence" similar to metallic glitter. Depending on the color of its vitral base, goldstone can be blue, brown or green.

Urban legend says goldstone was an accidental discovery by alchemist monks trying to make gold.

According to more realistic sources the original manufacturing process for goldstone was invented in Venice, Italy in the seventeenth-century by the Miotti family, even though goldstone amulets like the one pictured here, which dates to the 12-13th century have been excavated in Iran.
