Appaloosa belt - One of a kind edition - Snakeskin Jasper

$320.00

Shipping calculated at checkout.

This luxurious belt is made of braided horse hair and features a silver buckle inlaid with a stunning piece of snakeskin jasper.

The belt itself is made in America by Colorado Horsehair, who have tremendous respect about the animal and the horsehair tradition. They cut the hair used in their items from the horsetail without harming or discomforting the animal at all. Afterwards, the hair is tightly braided by hand using century-old methods to create a super durable and beautiful piece.

DIMENSIONS AND SIZING:

Buckle: 1 1/2'' (3.8cm) by 2'' (5.1cm)

Belt braid width: 1 1/8'' (3cm)

Belt length at tightest hole: 36 1/2'' (93cm)

Belt length at loosest hole: 39 3/4'' (101cm)

This small batch of belts was inspired by the beauty and vastness of the American southwest, the always inspiring cowboy style of some of the Tucson Gem show attendees and my personal love of jasper. The name was given after a bread of horses known for its spotted colorful coat patterns.

Jasper can be found all over the world, and historically is traceable to all ancient peoples and civilizations. Its name is derived from the Greek iaspis, meaning “agate,” the Assyrian ashpu, and the Hebrew jashpeh. To the medieval world and the Native Americans, Jasper was “the rain bringer”.

This type of jasper is called Snakeskin because of its striking banded pattern produced by the alternating layers of heavy iron.

This particular specimen was acquired in Arizona and hand cut in NYC.

Each of our jewelry pieces is thoughtfully wrapped and comes in it's own handmade palm box to keep your new lil treasure (and others you might already have) safe and shiny ✨
